To know which roller shutter motor is right for you, you need to know the weight of your roller shutter leaf and indeed this will determine the power of the motor to choose.

Calculation of the curtain weight of a roller shutter

You must first calculate the surface of your roller shutter

To perform this calculation, you must know the width and height of your roller shutters.

Deck area m2= (width+0.2) * height

To that you must add 0.2m which represents the 20 cm height under the lintel of the shutter. The height under the lintel corresponds to the invisible blades in the trunk.

For example if my shutter has the following dimensions: 1 m wide and 1.6 m high. My area calculation will be as follows: (1+0.2)*1.6 = 1.92 m2.

Once you have obtained the surface area, you must calculate the weight of your roller shutter deck. For information, here are the estimates per m2 of weight according to the material of your roller shutter:

PVC: 6 kg

Aluminum: 5 kg

Wood: 10 kg

Steel: 12 kg

Weight of roller shutter = area * weight of material

Using the previous example, and my roller shutter is made of PVC, to calculate the weight of my roller shutter, here is the calculation: 1.92*6 = 11.52 kg. So my roller shutter weighs about 11.52 kg.

The power to be selected according to the weight of the roller shutter

Now that you know the weight of your roller shutter, you can choose the roller shutter motor power to choose. We remind you that power must be the criterion to be respected to ensure a longer life for your remote control motor kit.

Power is expressed in Newton meters (Nm).

Discover our power advice according to the weight of your roller shutter:

< 30 kg: 15 Nm

between 30 and 50 kg : 30 Nm

between 50 and 100 kg : 45 Nm (up to 80 kg) or 50 Nm

between 100 and 140 kg : 80 Nm

between 140 kg and 180 kg : 100 Nm

between 180 kg and 220 kg : 120 Nm

In the case of my previous example, a roller shutter motor with a power of 15 Nm will be sufficient to equip my roller shutter.
